FAQs

Common questions about accounting for dropshipping in Canada.

Not legally required, but most dropshippers who handle it themselves run into problems: missed GST/HST registration, messy supplier costs, or wrong deductions. Dropshipping has enough moving parts that a familiar accountant will save you more than they cost.

Yes on both. All dropshipping income is taxable. You report it on your T1 (sole proprietor) or T2 (corporation) and pay income tax on profits after expenses. You also need to collect and remit GST/HST once your worldwide revenue hits $30,000 in any 12-month period.

Two separate taxes apply. Income tax is on your net profit after supplier costs, platform fees, and other expenses. GST/HST is a sales tax you collect from Canadian customers and pass through to CRA. Getting both right is what bookkeeping for dropshipping is really about.

Once your total sales cross $30,000 in any 12-month period, you must register within 30 days. This includes both Canadian and international customers. After that, you file returns annually, quarterly, or monthly based on your volume.

There’s no specific dropshipping license. You need to register your business with CRA and get a Business Number. If revenue exceeds $30,000, you’ll also need a GST/HST account. What’s required depends on your structure. We can walk you through it on a free call.

A CRA document that applies when goods move within Canada between registered businesses in a dropshipping arrangement. Whether you need one depends on your supplier setup. We review your situation and handle the paperwork.

AliExpress suppliers don’t charge Canadian GST/HST. But you still need to track those payments in Canadian dollars using Bank of Canada exchange rates and account for any import duties. We handle all of that as part of our service.

A 1099-K is a US tax form for payment processing activity. It doesn’t automatically mean you owe US taxes, but it needs to be handled properly. We sort this out for Canadian dropshippers as part of our service.

Usually it’s not knowing the real profit numbers. Revenue looks fine, but once you factor in fees, supplier costs, and returns, the margin isn’t there. Bad bookkeeping means you don’t catch it in time.

Still viable, but margins are tighter. The businesses that last know their numbers: profit per product, real supplier costs, and taxes done right.

With regular e-commerce you hold inventory. With dropshipping you don’t, but you still need to track supplier costs, platform fees, and margins properly. A bookkeeper unfamiliar with the model will miss things. Our systems are built specifically for how dropshipping works.

It usually starts from $800–$1,000/month depending on volume and platforms. Book a free call for exact pricing.

No. Everything is done online. We’re based in Toronto’s Financial District, minutes from Union Station, but we work with dropshipping businesses across Ontario and the US remotely.
